Born in Havana, Cuba, On September 2nd, 1963.
ARES holds degrees in Medicine (1987) and Psychiatry (1993).
Published his first cartoon in 1994. He also worked as an illustrator,
mainly for children’s books, and made oil paintings and animations.
ARES now works in Havana as a freelance artist
His works have been published around the world, and he has won more than
one hundred awards, out of which, sixty two are international. These
awards include:

Ares worked with television and animated films, and some of his works
have been used to make short animated films (Filminutos). He has given
lectures about cartoon and comic art in Cuba, Iran, Mexico, Colombia,
Turkey, canada and Finland.
He serves as a member of jury in a number of international cartoon
contests in Mexico, Italy, Brazil, Cuba and Iran.
In 1994, he was nominated by the Witty World Magazin, USA, to be
included in the list of the best cartoonists of the world. He was also
nominated by Cuba to the Quevedos Iberoamercan Cartoon Award, and was
included in the Memory Project Book, as one of the most relevant visual
artists of Cuba in the 20th century.
Ares was also included in the survey of the Twenty Most Outstanding
Cartoonists of The Twentieth Century in Cuba.
In 2002, He was awarded the National Culture Medal, by the Cuban Culture
